The best own goal ever

25 Jul

Carl Jenkinson is less than one month into his Arsenal career, but the young defender is unlikely to forget Saturday’s friendly against FC Cologne in a hurry, the 19-year-old who joined the Gunners from Charlton earlier this summer in a £1million deal, found the back of the net with a stunning strike during the first half of his side’s 2-1 friendly win. But unfortunately for Jenkinson it came at the wrong end.

The defender’s 22-yard controlled volley over the head of Wojciech Szczesny in first-half stoppage time was his last contribution after he was hauled off at half time.

Arsenal’s two goals at the right end came courtesy of debutant Gervinh, who completed a move to the London club from Lille earlier this week, opened the scoring on seven minutes after being played in by a clever Jack Wilshere pass.

Gervinho then turned home a Theo Walcott cross eight minutes later to double Arsenal’s advantage, before leaving the pitch just before the half-hour mark.
