Kenya wins CANA swimming championship in Lusaka

Kenya scooped 80 medals to win the Confederation of Africa Swimming Championships (CANA) in Lusaka Zambia.

Kenya clinched 26 gold, 26 silver and 28 bronze medals to post the country’s best ever performance at the continental level.

Last year, the team to the same event in Mozambique garnered 14 gold, 23 silver and 16 bronze.

Hamdan Bayusuf won eight gold and a silver and also broke Commonwealth and Africa swimming gold medalistJason Dunford’s five continental swimming records.

Emily Muteti bagged 10 medals included seven gold and three bronze medals to emerge as the best girl and second overall.

The victorious team arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday morning with a red carpet reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The team was received by Sports Commissioner Gordon Oluoch and senior officials of the Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) and traditional dancers .The team was later hosted to breakfast treat..
