Arsene Wenger bitter Juan Mata moved to Man Utd

23 Jan

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger questions the fairness of Juan Mata’s prospective move from Chelsea to Manchester United at this stage of the season.

The Gunners manager points out that Chelsea have already faced United twice in the Premier League, meaning that they will not have to face the Spaniard this season, while others in the Premier League, including Arsenal still have fixtures to play against David Moyes’s side.

Wenger says this places a question mark over
whether the timing of such deals is fair to all
clubs.

Juan Mata’s £37million transfer to Manchester United accepted

23 Jan

Chelsea have accepted a £37million bid for Juan Mata and he will be joining Manchester United after medical tomorrow.

The dramatic deal see him more than double his £70,000-a-week Chelsea salary at Old Traffod, Juan senior, Mata’s father and agent flew in from Spain yesterday morning after it became apparent an offer would finally be made.

Mata was keen on the move, despite not asking for a transfer, after he fell out of favour under Mourinho which has placed his chances of playing for Spain in this summer’s World Cup Finals under threat.

Depending on the outcome of the medical tomorrow, Mata is likely to be handed his debut against Cardiff City at Old Trafford next Tuesday, with Moyes keen to add further new faces, a left back and a midfielder, to his squad before next Friday’s transfer deadline.

Manchester United To Sack David Moyes?

David Moyes Man United

Manchester United are preparing to give  manager David Moyes the boot as the Old Trafford club continue to struggle to maintain consistency in their push for silverware in the Scot’s first season in charge, according to CaughtOffside.

Moyes had a good run of six wins across all competitions, against inferior opposition, but a  defeat at home to Tottenham and a late FA Cup defeat to Swansea City, again at home, has left the club seriously considering a mid-season managerial change.

At the current rate. securing of Champions League qualification for 2014/15 is now the very least Man United are looking to garner from the current campaign. Failure to meet this goal would also make it far harder to lure top talents to the club next summer.

Man United’s board do not want to be seen as making a knee-jerk reaction to recent results but may well feel that they are left with no choice other than to axe Moyes and are drawing up a list of potential interim manager’s who could steer the ship until the summer.

Sir Alex Ferguson is one potential candidate for the job though Man United could opt instead to allow coaches Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs to take charge until a suitable long-term replacement can be found.

Man United now sit in seventh place in the Premier League, some 11 points off top of the table Arsenal and five behind fourth placed Liverpool and though perhaps the gap to a Champions League spot is not out of sight there is little evidence that the club is making up ground on their rivals.

Man United’s home form has become a real concern and is perhaps seen as a side of just how unstable the club’s footing is now. Incredibly David Moyes has seen his side have lost four of their last six matches at Old Trafford and the character, or lack thereof, shown by the players in these defeats is perhaps even more worrying than the results themselves.

David Moyes has recently stated that he had no immediate plans to bring in January acquisitions and this has led some to surmise that Man United are reluctant to offer the manager a massive transfer fund boost this month in view of the possibility that he may be axed and that the additions he wants to bring in may not be to the liking of any potential successor.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure was clearly always going to send shock-waves through the Premier League club and his exit very much signaled an end to an era and the club’s squad is also seemingly heading to
